  • John 18:33-38a

33 Then Pilate went back inside the Judgement Hall again, and addressed Jesus and said to him, “Are you the king of the Jews?” 34 Jesus answered him, “Do you say this on your own, or did others tell you about me?” 35 “Am I a Jew?” Pilate replied. “Your own people and chief priests [...]

  • Sermon - The Days of Noah (Advent 1A)

This sermon was originally based upon the gospel text for the First Sunday of Advent, Year A - Matthew 24:36-44.  Some of you may find it helpful in guiding your meditations on Luke 21:25-26, which is also about Jesus Second Coming.

“For as the days of Noah were, so will be the coming of the Son [...]

  • My Paraphrases of Sunday’s Scripture - Christ the King

Here are my paraphrases of this coming Sunday’s scripture lessons.  I am using the lessons from Daniel and Psalm 93 (from the Book of Common Prayer) rather than the Revised Common Lectionary passages from 2 Samuel 23:1-7 and Psalm 132:1-12.  Daniel and Psalm 93 seem a better fit to me for Christ the King Sunday.
Tomorrow I hope to begin posting [...]

  • Reflectionary on Mark 10:46-52

    Mark 10:46-52 - My Paraphrase
46 Jesus and the disciples went to Jericho, and as they departed the city, a large crowd followed them. Blind Bartimaeus, son of Timaeus, was sitting on the side of the road, begging. 47 When he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to shout (croak) loudly, saying, “Jesus, [...]

  • Preliminary Reflections and Paraphrases of Sunday’s Scriptures

    Preliminary Reflections
There are many riches in our scripture from which to preach this week. I have decided to forgo the reading from Job this Sunday and instead use the passage from Isaiah 53 which ties into both the Gospel and the lesson from Hebrews. I will probably use this weeks reading from Job, as well as [...]

  • Reflectionary - Mark 10:17-31

    Mark 10:17-31 - My Paraphrase
17 As Jesus set out on the way, a man ran up to him and fell on his knees. “Good teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?”
18 “Why do you call me good?” Jesus answered. “None are good but one - God. 19 You know the commandments: [...]

  • My Sunday Sermon - Hardness of Heart

    Hardness of Heart
    ———————————————
Scripture for Sermon - Mark 10:2-12
Some Pharisees came, and to test him they asked, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife?” He answered them, “What did Moses command you?” They said, “Moses allowed a man to write a certificate of dismissal and to divorce her.”
But Jesus said to them, “Because [...]

  • Sunday’s Sermon - It Not What Goes In, But What Comes Out that Matters

I am a week behind in preaching the lectionary. The scriptures I am using are printed below, followed by my message.
    James 1:17-27
Every generous act of giving, with every perfect gift, is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change. In fulfilment of his [...]
