As mentioned in My Favorite TV Series’ Intros, I cannot think of a single current network TV series that has a memorable intro, with or without music. Recent favorites of mine are all on cable TV, either Showtime or HBO. They are, in order of my liking:
5. The Tudors (Showtime) - an excellent retelling of Henry VIII’s early years. A great cast will become even better with the addition of Peter O’Toole.
4. Dexter (Showtime) - This fantastic show about a serial killer who kills other serial killers will make its way to CBS this spring (thanks to the continuing writer’s strike)
3- Deadwood - It is so sad that this show lasted only two seasons on HBO. I blame David Milch and his misguided desire to bring John from Cincinnati to the small screen.
2 - The Sopranos - The show that really began the renaissance of television dramas. The intro and opening song are perfect for this gritty series.
1 - Six Feet Under - The music and the images in this powerful series intro are perfectly timed. The composer was actually given the footage first and was able to pull this off flawlessly. It doesn’t get any better than this.
Having dealt with series intros these last two days, I will examine my favorite TV series finales tomorrow. Stay tuned, my friends. Same bat time and same bat channel.
