    That, laddy, looks like a Thistle in it’s bare Winter glory. Perhaps it’s a picture of Scotland herself, stripped of purple by her English cousins.

    Alan is right. It’s a weed in the thistle family. In the U.S. we call it a teasel. You’re right, they are really kind of pretty.
