My Restless Nature and Blogging

I am, by nature, a restless person.  I am one of the rare people in the world who actually enjoys change.  For example, when I lived alone it was not unusual for me to start a home redecorating/rearranging project at two o’clock in the morning . . . moving all the furniture around by myself and all that.  The new setup would last a couple of months before I would turn around and do the same thing all over again.  I still rearrange my two rooms (a living room and bedroom) constantly, though I try to refrain from doing too much in the common areas I share with Jim and Joy and their children.

I say all this because when it comes to the blogs I have I am just as restless about them as I am about the stuff in my house.  There are traces of old blogs of mine all over the world wide web.  I have tried almost every free blogging platform, and I have designed and started too many blogs to mention.  One Thing I Know is the only blog I have kept for any length of time, and it has become my primary blog as well. This will not change.

I have, however, decided to make some changes at One Thing I Know, as well as consolidate some of my blogs. So here are the changes:

  • One Thing I Know now includes all the contents of my former photography blog Will’s World in Pictures.
  • Word and Table (my worship resources and scripture paraphrase blog) now also includes the contents of my former preaching resource and sermon blog Proclamation.
  • Will’s Journal will be a simple dairy of my daily activities (mainly church related).
  • EyeKon is a repository of my favorite and best photographs.
  • A Far Country is a writing blog that is part memoir and part exercise in creative writing (i.e., everything there did not necessarily happen to me).
  • My goal is to post on One Thing I Know at least 5 times a week, on Word and Table once or twice a week, on Will’s Journal daily (it is a diary after all), and on Eyekon weekly.  A Far Country  will be added to whenever the inspiration strikes.

When it comes to One Thing I Know, allow me to point out a few changes of late:

  • There is now a Google Translate Widget on the blog which will allow many non-English speakers/readers easier access to my work.
  • I have moved the Notepad back to the widgets on my blog.  It wasn’t getting much attention on the “Contact” page.
  • Direct links to my other blogs are now found on the page menu under the header picture.
  • The “Top Posts” page now includes links for both my Top Posts of All Time and Top Posts for the last month.
  • I have added a “Sitemap” for anyone who is interested, as well as better pages for “Categories” and “Archives.”
  • Readers of One Thing I Know can switch the sidebars to their preference when viewing my blogs, with the main content centered between them or the sidebars both positioned on the right hand side.  It’s up to you (if you care), and all you need do is to click on the small black boxes on the right hand side of the page menu.
  • And finally, I have a new cyberpet (courtesy of one of Julie’s posts).  His name is Barth.  He is bat, and if you click on him, he will wake up and fly around.  Of course, if you wake him, the least you can do is also feed him by clicking on the “more” tab and releasing a fly for him to munch on.  I love the “sonar” sound that Barth makes as he searches for his food.

Naturally, more changes are no doubt on the way, but I hope they won’t be too annoying or jarring.  What can I say . . . I get that restless itch from time to time, and I just have to scratch it.
