The spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me, because the Eternal has anointed me to bring good tidings to the lowly, he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom to the captive, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound; to proclaim the year of the Lord’s good pleasure, and the day of God’s vengeance; to console all who mourn; to grant to those who mourn in Zion– to give them beauty instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of lamentation, the garment of praise in the place of a heavy spirit . . . that they may be called oaks of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, for his glory. They shall repair the ancient ruins, they shall raise up the former devastations; they shall repair the desolated cities, the destruction of many ages.
For I the LORD love justice, I hate robbery for burnt offering; I will give them their recompense in truth, and I will make an everlasting covenant with them. Their seed shall be known among the nations, and their children among the peoples; all who see them shall acknowledge that they are the children whom the LORD has blessed. I will greatly rejoice in the LORD, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he has clothed me with the garments of deliverance, he has covered me with the robe of righteousness as a bridegroom decks himself with ornaments, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels. Even as the earth brings forth its sprouts, and as a garden causes what is sown to spring forth, so the Lord GOD will cause righteousness and praise to spring forth before all the nations.
