President Bush told us on Wednesday that “he laments” North Korea’s decision to test a nuclear bomb. He also stated that we are committed to diplomacy (though not by talking one on one with the offending nation) in order to solve this problem. What I want to know is this: If we know that North Korea definitely has (or will soon have - depending on whether the test was a dud or not) some notorious weapons of mass destruction, why aren’t we over there kicking their ass like we did to Iraq’s. Iraq, sad to say, did not have such weapons after all, but we went over there and showed them, and continue to show them, who’s boss (notwithstanding almost 3000 dead and 20,000 wounded US military personnel - and anyway, we have killed, or are indirectly responsible for the deaths, of at least 10 to 200 times that many). Why not do the same to North Korea?
Well, there are two good reasons why not:
- One billion Chinese, who also have nuclear weapons, and
- North Korea has no oil
