Here are today’s links (in no specific order):
1) If you are a fan of The Office on NBC (and if you are not, you should be), you don’t want to miss these deleted scenes from last night’s episode. You will find them here.
2) Another TV series you should be checking out (and I promise this is the last TV link in this post) is Battlestar Galactica. I loved the old TV series that starred Lorne Greene as Capt. Adama. Of course I was only 16 at the time and a geek, so why wouldn’t I have loved it. You may not remember, but when the series premiered over 65 million people watched the pilot episode. Anyway, there were some people who resented the SciFi channel remaking and re imagining of Galatica. If there is anyone out there who still does, however, he or she is an idiot. Battlestar Galatica is one of the best shows on TV, and it will soon begin its third season. If you haven’t watched it yet and would like to read what you’ve been missing, or if you would just like a refresher on what has transpired, you can find an excellent article in Entertainment Weekly here.
3) One interesting web site you should visit is called Tasty Research. On it the author gives us succinct reports on some of the academic research that’s being conducted and published. Go here for the site. One recent post dealt with the rate of lying in various types of communication and then posited some reasons for the different rates. Four modes of communication were investigated:
Phone: 37% of phone calls involved deception.
Face-to-Face: 27% of face-to-face conversations involved deception.
Instant Messaging: 21% of IM conversations involved deception.
Email: 14% of emails involved deception.
I have subscribed to this blog’s feed, and encourage you to do the same. Who knows when you will need some brain candy?
4) Hey, I just mentioned RSS above. If you’re not as geeky as me and some other folks, you may not understand how RSS works and how it can be a great way to get information off the WWW. If you’d like a simple explanation for RSS and its benefits, you can visit this site. Next week I hope to offer my evaluation of four free desktop RSS readers: Omea, Sharpreader, RSS Bandit, and Tristana.
5) Finally, Anne Appelbaum of The Washington Post has an excellent piece on free speech called Enough Apologies Tin response to all the uproar concerning the Pope’s misconstrued remarks about Islam this past week. I highly recommend reading it here.
